Late Surge Not Enough For Eagles at No. 20 UConn
October 16, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Kristofer Konradsson scores twice in final 12 minutes
Despite BC carrying the early edge in shots (3-2) and shots on goal (2-1) through the first 28 minutes, it would be the Huskies that scored first. Minutes later, Trevor Davock's pressure in the box earned a penalty kick but Austin Aviza was just able to get a fist onto Simon Enstrom's 31st minute attempt and knock it off the post. And while the Eagles outplayed the Huskies for stretches but entered the half in a 2-0 deficit after UConn grabbed a goal with two minutes to go in the half. The Huskies then struck first early in the second half to make it a three-goal lead.
BC looked to lessen the deficit – with Ronaldinho Diniz and Ivan Postolka both coming on as subs and getting looks and Heidar Aegisson getting a point-blank shot saved by Aviza – and eventually did on Konradsson's first career goal in the 79th minute. The rookie then added another six minutes later to pull the Eagles within one but neither shot the squad fired off over the remaining five minutes found the back of the net.
Aviza finished with eight saves while Antonio Chavez Borrelli had two for BC. The Eagles held the final edge in shots (16-6), shots on goal (10-5) and corners (5-2).
Boston College returns to action on Friday, hosting North Carolina in the Class of 2019's final regular season home game. The ACC game will kick off at 7 p.m.

SCORING
• 29' | After a foul was called on BC just past midfield, Josh Burnett did a quick restart by lofting the ball over the group of Eagles and Huskies standing 40 yards out from goal. The ball landed just off the foot of Abdou Mbacke Thiam and he dribbled a few steps before firing it far post past Chavez Borrelli.
• 43' | UConn's Mbacke Thiam was slipped a pass on the left flank, 30 yards from goal and he cut back up the field before floating in a curling cross towards the far side of the box. Burnett ran onto it and one-timed it inside the right post on the run.
• 51' | The Huskies possessed the ball near midfield and Blaise N'Gague received a long switch over to his spot on the left side. N'Gague dribbled into the box, cut back quickly and then slotted inside the far, right post.
• 79' | Konradsson picked up the ball about 25 yards out, dribbled past a defender towards the middle of the field and then ripped a left-footed shot that sailed into the upper right corner of the net.
• 85' | Fed about 40 yards from goal, Konradsson ran onto the ball and surged down the left side past some Huskies. He cut back towards the right to split the defenders and then used his right foot to slot the ball far post.
