Eagles Face First Home Setback of Season
October 12, 2018 | Field Hockey
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 12 Boston College field hockey team suffered their first home turf loss of the season as they fell, 4-1, to No. 1 ranked North Carolina. North Carolina remains undefeated with 14 wins on the season as the Eagles now hold 8-5 overall and 2-3 in-conference records.Â
The Eagles set back the Tar Heels 1-0 early in the first half – only the fourth time all season that North Carolina trailed after the first goal of the contest. Senior captain Lucy Lytle recorded her second goal of the season off of a pass from freshman Nell Webber following chaos in front of the cage after a shut-down corner chance for the Eagles. Lytle's goal would be the only time the Eagles made it onto the scoreboard during the contest.
The Tar Heels found the equalizer with a goal from Marissa Creatore who pushed the ball right past Dwyer's left side. This goal ensued the momentum for UNC as they capitalized again just eight minutes later. For their second goal, Catherine Hayden helped push a shot from Creatore to make it 2-1 North Carolina.Â
The half ended with North Carolina having the one-goal upper-hand despite each team recording an even six shots each.Â
North Carolina opened up the second half with a quick goal from Ashley Hoffman off of the first corner chance of the final half. Matson and Yentl Leemans recorded assists from the corner goal.Â
North Carolina's Eva van't Hoog added yet another with a straight shot past Dwyer, unassisted in the 53rd minute. Freshman goalkeeper Jonna Kennedy relieved Dwyer in the cage following the fourth Tar Heel goal.
