Tsokilauri and Irani post 3-0 doubles record
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Elene Tsokilauri and Natasha Irani went 3-0 in doubles for Boston College over the weekend at Yale's Bulldog Invitational, which opened the fall season for the Eagles. Tsokilauri also won two of her three singles matches in the competition.
Individually, freshmen Marion Conklin and Laura Lopez each collected their first career wins at Yale. Conklin picked up a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (6) victory against Jovana Bogicevic of UMass on Friday. Lopez followed on Saturday and defeated Gonzalez from Harvard 6-4, 7-6 (7) to secure the Eagles' lone singles victory against the Crimson.
"I thought we had great energy and competed hard all weekend at Yale," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "The hidden dual match format allowed us line up flexibility. We have a deep roster and these matches were good opportunities for many of our players to gain experience. It was exciting to see Laura and Marion earn their first collegiate wins."
Â
Tsokilauri and Irani lost just three games in three matches and began the weekend by beating the UMass duo of Janja Kovacevic and Jodie Lawrence-Taylor 6-0 on Friday. The pair then scored a 6-2 victory over Harvard's Natasha Gonzalez and Lexi Milunovich on Saturday and closed the weekend by beating Cornell's Sarah Campbell and Katherine Nguyen 6-1 on Sunday.
Â
Boston College's best day as a team was Sunday when it won five of nine matches against Cornell.Â
Three Eagles will be heading to California to compete in the ITA Women's All-American Championships at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades beginning beginning on Tuesday (Oct. 2). Iowa transfer Yufei Long begins her first season at the Heights with the No. 116 ITA singles ranking and will compete in the qualifying round. Senior captain Jackie Urbinati and junior Kylie Wilcox are set to begin the doubles competition.
