Both teams only had a few good chance as both defenses stood tally, but freshman Logan Hutsko's first-career game-winning goal the difference on Tuesday on The Heights
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 16 Boston College regained first place in Hockey East after a 2-1 dispatching of Massachusetts on Tuesday night at Kelley Rink. The Eagles have won seven-straight games and are unbeaten in nine (8-0-1) over the course of that span after sophomore Jesper Mattila and rookie Logan Hutsko scored to lift BC past UMass and back to the top of the standings.
Hutsko's first-career game-winning goal at 14:48 of the second period was the difference while Mattila opened the scoring with his first-career power play marker and third tally of the season.
Sophomore goaltender Joseph Woll upped his record to 9-7-2 on the season after turning away 20-of-21 Minutemen attempts.

- Boston College extended its winning streak over UMass to seven games with a 2-1 win over the Minutemen on Tuesday night at Kelley Rink. The Eagles have not lost to UMass in the last nine games, going 8-0-1 over the stretch and 12-1-1 over the last 14 contests.
- Sophomore defenseman Jesper Mattila tallied his third goal of the season and first-career power play marker at 12:17 of the first period. The Tampere, Finland native tallied two goals last season and now has five in the maroon and gold. It marks Mattila's first goal since at three-point showing (1-2-3) at Northeastern on Nov. 18.
- Logan Hutsko scored his fifth goal of the season and second in three games late in the second period. The Tampa, Fla. native's tally was unassisted, marking BC's second unassisted tally this season (David Cotton – Dec. 2 at Boston University). Hutsko's tally also stood as his first-career game-winning goal.
- Christopher Brown assisted on Jesper Mattila's first-career power play goal, marking his 50th-career point in his 96th game wearing the maroon and gold.
- Connor Moore provided the primary assist on Jesper Mattila's power play goal, marking his third-career occurrence he's registered assists in back-to-back outings.

• Boston College took advantage of the first and only penalty of the first period after Austin Plevy got slashing at 10:21. With only four seconds in the power play window, Christopher Brown quarterbacked the play from the half wall and split the top of the zone with a feed to Connor Moore on the right circle. Jesper Mattila crept behind the play, accepted Moore's dish and whizzed it past UMass netminder Matt Murray at 12:17 for the 1-0 BC lead on the power play.

SECOND GOAL (1-1 – Massachusetts) - SECOND PERIOD – John Leonard – 4:07 – POWER PLAY
• The Minutemen replied to tie it up early in the second in transition at 4:07 of the second period. Marco Bozzo swung the puck out from behind the UMass net out to Brett Boeing in transition. Boeing soared down the left side of the sheet and triggered on BC's Joseph Woll. The original stop was made but John Leonard crashed the net and hammered it home to tie things up, 1-1.
THIRD GOAL (2-1 – Boston College) - SECOND PERIOD – Logan Hutsko – 14:48 – EVEN STRENGTH
• The Eagles responded ten minutes later in the second stanza after Logan Hutsko capitalized off a turnover on Massachusetts' blue line. UMass was attempting to break it out of its zone and the puck slipped off the defenseman's stick right to Hutsko coming the other way. David Cotton joined the play to create a 2-on-1 and Hutsko deked to Cotton, held the puck and lifted it past Murray at 14:48 to regain the edge, 2-1.
