Eagles Compete in Tri-Meet Weekend

Aileen Coyne finds new season-best in the women's 200 yard freestyle
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Boston College swimming and diving team wraps up a three-dual meet weekend traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y to challenge Marist College then wrapped up with two meets in West Point, N.Y. against Army and Bucknell. The squad had just completed its annual training camp in Boston before heading out to these meets – the most challenging two-week span of training the team will complete. Â

These three meets are the Eagles' first competition following a six week break.

Marist vs. BC – January 12
The women's team swam to their first victory of 2018, 166-134, over the Red Foxes Friday night, while the men fell 204-96. Sophomore Ina Elcott produced the meet's best performance after winning both the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly. The women and the men both won their respective 200 yard medley relay.
Other BC Highlights:
- Fresman Ali Kea was victorious in the 50 and 100 yard relays with times of 24.64 and 54.14, respectively.
- The team of Kea, juniors Julie Dobson and Lauren Quinn swept the 100 yard freestyle.
- Sophomore Victoria Lin, senior Emily Smith and junior Maria Russo swept the 200 yard butterfly.- Juniors Billy Miller, Charles Kleinsmith and freshman Peter Shepanzyk came out on top of 100 yard breastroke.
- With a time of 1:57.19, sophomore Kristina Fecarotta won the 200 yard freestyle.

Army vs. Bucknell vs. BC – January 13
 Though the three teams faced off at the same time, they were scored as two separate duals meets. The men triumphed over Bucknell, but fell to Army. The women's team slated two losses on the day. Sophomore Aileen Coyne found her dual-meet best time of 1:56.80 in the women's 200 yard freestyle, securing second place. Kea notched another great performance on the weekend as the top finisher in the women's 50 and 100 yard freestyles. Junior Colin Derdeyn gave a show on the men's side as the top finisher in the 50 and 100 yard butterfly – this landed Derdeyn first place in both against Bucknell.

Other BC Highlights:
- Seniors Emily Mann and Madeline Simone were the Eagle's top finishers in the 1,000 yard freestyle.
- Freshman Zander Santana finished the men's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.13, while sophomore Michael Hinton finished with a time of 1:45.16 solidifying first and second places, respectively.
- With a time of 1:53.88, freshman Colin O'Leary produced a first-place finish over Bucknell in the 200 yard butterfly.
- Lin and Elcott performed very well in the 100 yard butterfly with times of 58.13 and 58.51, respectively.
