Bryant Shuts Out BU

Eagles continue to lead the Terriers in their overall series, 16-5-1.
NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Gianna Mitchell, senior Lauren Berman and junior Carly Leipzig netted goals in the Eagles' 3-0 win over the Boston University Terriers Sunday afternoon.
Mitchell scored the lone goal of the first half off of a corner kick from freshman Sam Coffey, giving the Eagles the advantage going into the second half. Four minutes into the second, Berman put her penalty shot in the net. Leipzig's goal was also assisted by Coffey, who now holds team-high six assists on the season.
Though BU had the same amount of shots on goal as BC, goalkeeper redshirt junior Alexis Bryant made six saves. All of which came in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: Boston College 1, Boston University 0 – 19th minute: A corner kick from Sam Coffey curled in towards the goal, but was punched out by BU's goalie. Mitchell was in the right place to head the ball into the goal to open scoring and hand BC the advantage.
GOAL: Boston College 2, Boston University 0 – 49th minute: Berman placed a penalty kick in the bottom left corner of BU's net.
GOAL: Boston College 3, Boston University 0 – 69th minute: Coffey carried the ball through the middle of the field and found Berman streaking to her left. Berman's cross was perfectly timed and hit Carly Leipzig right inside the box. Leipzig placed the shot into the far corner for a 3-0 BC lead.

"It was a local battle with a lot of physical play,'' said Coach Alison Foley. 'We were happy we kept our focus defensively and I thought Alexis (Bryant) was great today. BU is always a competitive match so we are please with the result.''
GAME NOTES
- Alexis Bryant made all six of her saves in the second half. One of the key saves came off a BU corner kick in the 72nd minute. BU sent a header towards the near post corner. Bryant came from the middle of the goal mouth to punch the ball out and secure the Eagles shutout.
- Mitchell and Leipzig both notched their second goals of the seasons. Both of Mitchell's goals came off corner kicks.
- Freshman Sam Coffey notched her team-high fifth and sixth assist. This was her second career game where she recorded over one assist.
- Four newcomers started today's match: Elysa Virellla, Mijke Roelfsema, Sam Coffey and Gianna Mitchell. Roelfsema, Coffey and Mitchell have started every match thus far this season, while Virella has started all but one.
- Berman netted her fourth goal of the season, tying teammate Jenna Bike for most goals in 2017.
- Second straight year the Eagles defeated the Terriers 3-0. Berman notched a goal in that win, as well.
