Local product from Thayer Academy looks to make his mark
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Newcomer Casey Carreau comes to Boston College as no stranger to the New England community. The right-handed forward will be one of five forwards in head coach Jerry York's 2017-18 incoming class and one of seven, in all.
The Acushnet, Mass. native closed out a four-year career at Thayer Academy in 2016-17 and skated away with one of the region's top honors. Carreau won the John Carlton Memorial Award, given to the most outstanding male player in New England high school hockey.
He racked up 23 goals and 38 points (61 points) in 30 games played in his senior campaign. In addition to his New England honor, Carreau was named to the USA Today All-USA Hockey Third Team.
Carreau's junior season in Thayer was just as successful after he tallied 71 points (34-37-71) in as many games, earning the Independent School League MVP and tabbed to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic team.
The 5-foot-10 scoring threat has some prior Boston College connections as he was coached by former Eagle Andrew Orpik with the Cape Cod Whalers organization in his earlier playing days.
