Competitive games ramps up the energy on the second day of preseason
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College took the field for the second day of preseason Thursday morning at the Newton Soccer Complex.
The team opened the day with a morning lift prior to taking the field. After a 15 minute warm up, the goalkeepers went to the near side goal to work out while the field players headed to the far end.
Coach Alison Foley, along with associate head coach Mark McDevitt and assistant coach Mike Lavigne put the team through a number of technical drills while assistant coach James Thorpe worked with the goalkeepers.
The two groups came together for four spirited 10 minute 9-v-9 games. Rookie Ya Ya Van Ness was the first to find the back of the net off a beautiful cross from sophomore Jenna Bike. Sophomore Olivia Vaughn and freshman Sam Coffey both scored on two crisp passes through the midfield.
The second session the team opened up with a number of competition games, including a competitive maroon vs. gold soccer tennis game. The gold team earned bragging rights for the day.
After a 20 minute field pattern play review, the team went through a crossing and finishing session. The drill ended on a beautiful header from Coffey to the far post off a cross from Madison Kenny.
