James Thorpe joined the Boston College women’s soccer staff in January of 2016.
Thorpe arrives at Boston College after serving as an assistant men's soccer coach at the University of Rhode Island. Thorpe was responsible for monitoring the academic progress, international recruiting, scouting opponents as well as one-on-one training.
Prior to joining URI, Thorpe worked with both men's and women's soccer programs at Holy Cross. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Evansville.
Thorpe was a goalkeeper at Franklin Pierce and was named the 2007 NCAA Division II National Player of the Year. He led Franklin Pierce to the national title his senior season. He was a three-time All-American goalkeeper and was a four-time Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year. Thorpe was the first three-time All-America selection in Franklin Pierce history and was the first four-time NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year in Conference history.
In January of 2008, Thorpe was selected by DC United in the fourth round of the MLS Supplemental Draft. He played professionally for DC United and the Western Mass Pioneers.
A native of East Longmeadow, Mass., Thorpe is a 2008 graduate of Franklin Pierce and earned his master's degree in Public Service Administration from the University of Evansville.
