2017 Kicks Off with BC Invitational
August 23, 2017 | Volleyball
Invitees playing alongside the Eagles will include Fairfield, Providence and UAB.Â
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball will begin their 2017 campaign Friday, August 25, hosting the ninth annual Boston College Invitational. The tournament will take place in Power Gym, which is located on the Chestnut Hill campus.
Â
Invitees playing alongside the Eagles will include the Fairfield University Stags of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the Providence College Friars of the Big East and the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers of Conference USA.
Â
The weekend will commence with the Friars challenging the Blazers at 5 p.m., followed by the Eagles opening their season against the Stags at 7:30 p.m. Each team will play another two matches on Saturday, BC taking the court at 1 p.m. against Providence and 7:30 p.m. against Alabama at Birmingham to finish out the matches.
Â
With seven newcomers in addition to the 12 returners, head coach Chris Campbell is hopeful for the outcome of this invitational and the season overall.
Â
"We've grown a lot over the course of training camp", Campbell said. "It's always good to get the first match in and play against someone other than yourselves. I think there's some stuff we do pretty well and we're looking to maximize on that over the course of the weekend. There's still stuff we've got to get better at, but those opening matches give you a chance to see kind of where you're at and what the next steps are for improvement."
