CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A pair of former Boston College women's hockey players were chosen in Sunday's Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) Draft.
Kristyn Capizzano '17, who graduated in May following her four-year career at The Heights, was taken second overall – the No. 2 pick in the first round – by her hometown Toronto Furies.
The Oakville, Ontario, native wrapped her collegiate career with 101 career points from 45 goals and 57 assists in 155 games. She ranked second in career games played at BC and is tied for 15th in career scoring. Capizzano also served as an assistant captain in 2016-17.
Alex Carpenter '16 was drafted by one of the new Chinese entries in the CWHL this year, Kunlun Red Star. The 2015 Patty Kazmaier Award winner, 2014 U.S. Olympian and three-time All-American, Carpenter spent the 2016-17 season playing for the Boston Pride of the NWHL. In her one prior pro season, Carpenter posted 29 points (9 goals, 20 assists) to rank second in the league in scoring, first in assists and tied for seventh in goals.
Carpenter, a product of North Reading, Massachusetts, is currently a member of the 2017-18 U.S. Women's National Team, which will maintain residency in the Tampa, Florida, area this fall and winter and play a slate of exhibition games against Canada while preparing for the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
