Eagles welcome two transfers and eight rookies.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College held its first training session at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the Newton Soccer Complex. The schedule included technical training in the morning and a fitness session later in the day.
Head coach Alison Foley was happy with the training sessions considering the sweltering heat.
"The team was eager to get out on the field. The technical level and speed of play was very good for our first session,'' said head coach Alison Foley after the first session of the day.
Captains Allyson Swaby and Lauren Berman put the team through pre-practice stretch after an early morning testing session.
Swaby is entering her fourth season at BC. The Eagles defender has played in 53 games, including 19 as a rookie. She has two goals and two assists over her three seasons as one of the most aggressive defenders in the ACC.
Berman transferred to BC after playing the 2014 season at Maryland. The Eagles midfielder has been a work-horse for the team as she is one of the top two-way players in the conference. In just two seasons with the Eagles she has recorded seven goals and 12 assists in 39 games played.
"The team had high energy from the start as both captains led the team through the first phase of practice,'' said Foley.
Practice Notes: Despite the humidity and not sun beaming down on the field, spirits were high as the team ran through a number of technical drills, while the goalkeepers worked with Coach James Thorpe in the first training session of the season … Coach Alison Foley, Associate head coach Mark McDevitt and assistant coach Mike Lavigne ran the field players through technical drills and finished with a warm down … it was the first day of action for a number of players including transfer students Hannah Winner (Princeton) and Alysa Virella (Monroe College). The eight freshman were led in drills by the captains Allyson Swaby and Lauren Berman as well as a number of returners … Rookie Mijke Roelfsema, who arrived on Tuesday night from The Netherlands, looked comfortable in the team drills and showed no signs of jet lag … the Eagles second session of the day began at 4:30 p.m. and consisted of fitness drills. The session was cut short by rain and lightning. The team will be back on the field on Thursday morning for the second day of preseason training ...
