THE TOURNAMENT
• Boston College will open up the 2017 season at the JMU Tournament on Friday night. The Eagles will play host James Madison at 7 p.m. Boston College will then play William & Mary on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
• Fans can follow the games on game tracker and Twitter (@BC_WSOC). Friday's game vs. JMU can be heard on the Dukes home radio.
COACH FOLEY'S CONNECTION TO JMU
• BC head coach Alison Foley has a special connection to JMU head coach David Lombardo. The JMU coach once coached at Keene State and recruited Foley for his team. When Foley was a senior, Lombardo left to become the head coach at JMU. Foley and Lombardo remained close and he hired her as an assistant coach for three seasons at JMU. Foley then took over the head job at Angelo State for one season before being hired by Boston College in 1997.
VS. JMU
• Boston College is 2-4 all-time against James Madison.
• The two teams last played in 1999. BC defeated JMU, 4-1, that season.
• BC's first win over JMU came in 1985 (6-0). Prior to 1991, JMU was not a varsity program.
VS. WILLIAM & MARY
• Boston College is 2-3 all-time against William & Mary.
• The Eagles won the first two meetings vs. W&M (1984, 3-0; 1986, 1-0).
• William & Mary has won the last three meetings.
• BC lost the final game against W&M, 3-0 in 1990.
CAPTAINS
• The team captains for the 2017 season are defender Allyson Swaby and midfielder Lauren Berman. She has played in 55 career games.
• Allyson Swaby is from Connecticut and is a four-year starter for the Eagles.
• Lauren Berman, a Canton native, transferred to BC after one season at Maryland. She has been a mainstay in the starting lineup since her arrival at The Heights. Berman had a team-high eight assists last season.
NUMBER CHANGES
• Sophomore Emily Langenderfer went from No. 27 to No. 6 while sophomore Francesca Venezia was No. 8 and is now No. 12.
TEAM NOTES
• Head coach Alison Foley enters her 21st season at the helm at The Heights. She is the winningest coach in program history with 257-135-37 record. Foley's staff includes Mark McDevitt, the associate head coach, enters his fifth season at BC. Mike Lavigne, the program's first head coach, has been by Foley's side for the last 15 years while James Thorpe is in his second season as an assistant coach.
• The Eagles return five starters from last year's team – Allyson Swaby, Lauren Berman, Alexis Bryant, Madison Kenny and Jenna Bike.
• BC welcomed two transfer students to the team this season. Graduate student Hannah Winner joins the Eagles after graduating from Princeton in May. She has one year of eligibility left. The second transfer student is Elysa Virella. She played two seasons at Monroe College and has two seasons left of eligibility.
• Eight freshmen were added to the 2017 roster Ya Ya Van Ness and Sam Coffey can play up top or at midfield while Jillian Jennings, Riley Lochhead and Mia Karras can play both midfield and defense. Julia Homan, Mijke Roelfsema and Gianna Mitchell are all defenders.
• BC won the only scrimmage of the preseason. Four different players scored – Jenna Bike, Lauren Berman, Elysa Virella and Gianna Mitchell – to lead BC past UConn, 4-0, last Friday night.
