Erika Reineke Wins Sailor of the Year

Eagles place second in Women's National Championship
The Boston College women's sailing team placed second at the Sperry Women's National Championship Finals this afternoon hosted by the College of Charleston. The top 18 college teams in the country raced for the Miller Trophy and Yale University took the championship with 185 points while BC posted 208 points. Coast Guard finished third with 259 points, while URI was fourth with 261 points. Stanford was fifth at 267 points.
The Eagles A Division team consisted of Erika Reineke, Fiona Walsh and Allison Ferraris while Ally Donahue, Isabella Loosbrock, Tara Ferraris, Madde Loosbrock and Lizzie Bohan sailed in the B Division.
After the first couple days of competition, Boston College placed second in the Eastern Semifinal to qualify for the championship round. With 18 teams in the final event, Boston College came into today's final day of racing just a few points behind Yale.
Boston College finished Thursday's competition in second place behind Yale with The top teams advanced to the championship. The Eagles battled but Yale took a commanding lead and with four races to go, the Bulldogs held a 12 point lead. With the second place finish BC won the New England Women's Trophy.
In other sailing news, Reineke won Quantum Sailor of the Year, while behind named a 2017 All-American along with teammate Ally Donahue.
The Boston College team will turn around and prepare to sail tomorrow as the Laser Performance Team Race National Championship event will take place over the next three days. Fans can follow the action on the college sailing website.
