CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball head coach Chris Campbell recently announced the addition of outside hitter Lynn Braakhuis, who will join the team this fall.
Braakhuis, who stands at 5-foot-8 and is a native of Coesfeld, Germany, will be a member of the Class of 2017. Braakhuis comes to the Heights from Nijmegen, Netherlands, where she studied at Radboud University from 2014-17 and earned cum laude honors in her first year of studies.
Braakhuis will continue her volleyball career at Boston College following her time playing for the club team VoCASA Nijmegen from 2016-17 under head coach Bram Lijssenaar. Previous to that, Braakhuis played club ball in Germany for Skurios Volleys Borken from 2007-16 under head coach Claudia Pass. In 2015, the team finished third at the Under-20 German National Championship.
Braakhuis also has experience playing for the Dutch Youth National team, finishing ninth overall in the Under-18 European Championship in 2013, tenth in the Under-19 European Championship in 2014, and third in the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2013.
Braakhuis has been studying medicine in the Netherlands and hopes to continue her studies and enter the medical field after graduation. She is the daughter of Grego and Paulien Braakhuis and has two sisters, Jana (22) and Lotte (19) who both play volleyball. Jana played for the University of Northern Iowa in 2015-16.
On adding Braakhuis to the 2017 squad, head coach Chris Campbell noted, "Lynn brings a wealth of experience and sound overall skills to the outside hitting position. Her ability to play all six rotations and her volleyball IQ will have an immediate impact on her program. I look forward to incorporating Lynn into our program and working with her to continue her development."
The Eagles will begin the 2017 campaign in late August.
