
Wilcox Clinches ACC Championship Victory against Hokies

Urbinati, Tsokilauri win in singles, doubles
ROME, Ga. – The Boston College women's team claimed an ACC Championship opening-round victory, defeating Virginia Tech, 4-3, on Wednesday.
The 12th-seeded Eagles (10-13, 4-10 ACC) earned the doubles point and won three singles matches. Sophomore Jackie Urbinati and freshman Elene Tsokilauri both went 2-0 in the contest, winning in singles and doubles.
The match came down to third singles with the teams tied, 3-3. Freshman Kylie Wilcox clinched BC's victory with a 7-6, 6-4 win. Wilcox has won four straight singles matches and has a 13-7 individual record in her stellar rookie season.
Earlier in the match, BC and 13th-seeded Virginia Tech (11-13, 4-10 ACC) were tied, 1-1, in doubles. Then the Eagles clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory from Urbinati and senior Lexi Borr on the No. 2 court.
Virginia Tech tied the match, 1-1, in a battle between nationally ranked players. No. 101 Natalie Novotna defeated Borr – ranked No. 110 – in second singles 6-2, 6-3.
Then the Eagles took a 3-1 lead. Tsokilauri earned a 6-0, 6-4 in sixth singles. Urbinati then won her third straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 5 court.
BC will next face fifth-seeded NC State in the second round on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Rome, Ga.
