Pair honored for performances last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Seniors Andie Anastos (women's hockey) and Taylor Coroneos (softball) have been named Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.
Anastos had three points in the Eagles' two games during the championship weekend of the Hockey East Tournament, but her two goals were the news of the weekend. On Saturday, she scored at 3:03 of the second overtime session to claim the 4-3 semifinal win for the Eagles. On Sunday, her unassisted game-winner 5:44 into overtime sealed the championship for Boston College behind the 2-1 victory. In addition to her two goals, she assisted on Kenzie Kent's power-play goal to open the scoring in Saturday's semifinal. Anastos was voted to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team and also claimed Most Valuable Player honors.
Â
Coroneos hit 12-for-21 (.571) in six games at the ESPN Citrus Classic as BC went 4-2 at the event. She scored nine runs and stole five bases, adding to her five multiple-hit games during the exhibition in Florida. On March 3, she went 2-for-4 against Kansas, and followed it up with a 2-for-3 outing with three runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI against Charlotte the next day. Coroneos added a 3-for-4 game against South Alabama, and closed the tournament going a combined 5-for-7 with five runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases against Chattanooga and Mercer.
Â
The fourth-ranked women's hockey team returns to the ice on Saturday, March 11, when the Eagles host No. 6 St. Lawrence in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Kelley Rink. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
Â
Softball hits the diamond again on Wednesday, March 8, when the team faces UPenn and South Florida at the Bulls' facility in Tampa. This weekend, the Eagles open ACC play with a three-game series at Virginia, Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12.
