Eagles’ duo helped lead the women’s hockey team to its third Hockey East Tournament title
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Fresh off leading the Boston College women's hockey team to a repeat Hockey East Tournament title – and third overall – senior captain Andie Anastos and junior defenseman Megan Keller were honored by the conference on Monday.
Anastos was recognized as the Warrior Player of the Week, while Keller was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. The Eagles topped Vermont in double overtime in the Hockey East Tournament semifinals and then Northeastern in overtime in the championship game on Sunday.
Anastos had three points in the Eagles' two games, but her two goals were the news of the weekend. On Saturday, she scored at 3:03 of the second overtime session to claim the 4-3 semifinal win for the Eagles. On Sunday, her unassisted game-winner 5:44 into overtime sealed the championship for Boston College behind the 2-1 victory.
In addition to her two goals, she assisted on Kenzie Kent's power-play goal to open the scoring in Saturday's semifinal. Anastos was voted to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team and also claimed Most Valuable Player honors.
Already the first defenseman to be voted Hockey East Player of the Year, Keller added to her ledger this weekend. In the semifinals, Keller assisted on three of BC's four goals – including the game-winner – before backing BC's defense in the championship as it limited Northeastern's potent offense to a single goal in 65-plus minutes. The Eagles also killed all four of the Huskies' power-play chances in the championship game. Keller was voted to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team.
This is Anastos' second Warrior Player of the Week honor this year, while this is Keller's third weekly honor from Hockey East (one player of the week, two defensive player of the week). Both players were also Hockey East Warrior Players of the Month: Anastos in December and Keller in February.
Fourth-ranked Boston College (27-5-5) returns to the ice on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. when the fourth-seeded Eagles host sixth-ranked St. Lawrence (26-5-4) in an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal-round game at Kelley Rink. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 ($5 for students with school ID and children under 12).
