Keller, Burt and Lonergan pick up honors from top college hockey outlet
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A trio of Boston College women's hockey players earned All-USCHO honors for the 2016-17 season. U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) is the top source of information about college hockey in the country, and presents its yearly honors at the conclusion of each season.
Junior defenseman Megan Keller was voted to the All-USCHO First Team, while junior goaltender Katie Burt was an All-USCHO Third Team honoree. Caitrin Lonergan was selected to the All-USCHO Rookie Team. | Full list of honorees
The three Eagles represent the only players from Hockey East voted to the outlet's end-of-season teams.
This is Keller's second first-team USCHO honor, after picking up first-team honors in 2015-16, as well. She was the first defenseman ever voted the Hockey East Player of the Year, and repeated as a first-team All-American. She was the nation's leading scorer among defensemen for the second year in a row and picked up her third Hockey All-Star First Team nod.
Burt already ranks among the top goaltenders in NCAA history with a season of eligibility remaining. This year, the junior ranked fifth nationally in goals against average (1.54) while her 2225:04 minutes played was second most in the country. Her 1.54 GAA was the third-best mark nationally among goalies in the Top 25 in minutes played. Her .935 save percentage was sixth-best in the country, while her 26 wins – as part of a 26-6-6 record – were third-most. Her winning percentage of .770 was the fifth-best mark nationally and Burt also posted eight shutouts, including three in the Eagles' six postseason games.
Burt will enter her senior year tied for sixth in NCAA career wins (91) – 23 shy of Noora Raty's record of 114 – and fifth in career shutouts (31). Her 1.30 career GAA would rank fifth, her .939 save percentage 10th and her .883 winning percentage third if her career ended after this season.
Lonergan was tied for second nationally in scoring among all freshman – tied with teammate Delaney Belinskas – recording 33 points from 15 goals and 18 assists. Lonergan was a unanimous choice on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, and so far is a two-time Hockey East Rookie of the Month and four-time league rookie of the week. She capped her first year of collegiate play sixth in freshman goals (15), tied for fifth in freshman assists (18) and fourth in freshman points per game (0.89).
