Freshman, sophomore spark BC’s comeback victory
PITTSBURGH – The Boston College women's tennis team defeated Pittsburgh, 4-3, in Friday's ACC road match.
Â
The Eagles (7-6, 2-3 ACC) won four singles matches. Freshman Elene Tsokilauri and sophomore Jackie Urbinati both went 2-0, winning together in doubles and earning singles victories.
Â
BC's depth proved pivotal, taking control of the contest after the Panthers (3-5, 0-4 ACC) won the doubles point.
Â
"We had a nice comeback tonight," said BC head coach Nigel Bentley. "Pittsburgh played very inspired doubles, and we were not at our best early. But we fought hard in singles and were able to find a way."
Â
Tsokilauri was the first to complete her singles match, winning 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 5 court. Urbinati then earned a 6-1, 6-2 sixth singles victory, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Â
Then freshman Dasha Possokhova defeated Pittsburgh's Gabriela Rezende 6-4, 6-4 in third singles. Senior Emily Safron clinched BC's team victory with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in fourth singles.
Â
The Eagles will next visit NC State on Sunday at 12 p.m.
