Kent, Flanagan and Belinskas pick up weekly honors after NCAA Quarterfinal win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – After leading the fourth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team back to the Frozen Four with a convincing 6-0 victory over sixth-ranked St. Lawrence at Kelley Rink on Saturday, three Eagles were recognized by Hockey East with weekly honors.
Junior forward Kenzie Kent was tabbed the Warrior Player of the Week, junior defenseman Kali Flanagan was the Defensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Delaney Belinskas was the Pro Ambitions Warrior of the Week.
Kent collected a season-high three points – including the game-winning goal and two primary assists – in the victory. The Norwell, Mass., product scored a power-play goal at 18:36 in the first period that gave the Eagles the lead heading into the second period. Later in the game, she fed Andie Anastos for a shorthanded goal on a 2-on-1 to push the score to 3-0, before setting up Makenna Newkirk's third-period goal to cap the scoring at 6-0.
Flanagan helped back the Eagles' defensive effort that led to the team's eighth shutout of the season and the third this postseason. The Burlington, Mass., product also collected a pair of assists in the game, twice breaking up St. Lawrence clearing efforts and turning the play around for a quick special teams goal. She played the outlet pass to Newkirk that led to Kent's power-play goal, and then stopped the Saint's own power-play rush in the second period and connected with Kent for the shorthanded breakaway that led to Anastos' goal.
Belinskas recorded one assist in the game, setting up Kristyn Capizzano's second-period goal that gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead. The Port Orange, Fla., product blocked the Saints' clearing pass at the blue line and turned the play around, setting up Capizzano in front for the play that led to the goal.
This is Kent's first-ever Hockey East Player of the Week honor, and the third weekly honor of her career to go with a pair of Rookie of the Week nods in 2014-15. This is Flanagan's first-ever Hockey East weekly honor, and Belinskas' third weekly rookie mention of the season to go with her December Rookie of the Month honor.
No. 4 seed Boston College (28-5-5) returns to the ice on Friday, March 17, when the Eagles face No. 1 seed Wisconsin (32-2-4) in the Frozen Four. Puck drop for the National Semifinal is set for 6 p.m. ET at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The game will be streamed live on ncaa.com, and tickets are still available.
