Eagles' goaltender recognized for her play in the team’s quarterfinal series
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior goaltender Katie Burt earned her fourth Hockey East weekly award of the season on Monday. She picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting back-to-back shutouts in the Eagles' Hockey East quarterfinal series against Merrimack last weekend.
So far this season, Burt has earned three Defensive Player of the Week nods and was also the league's Warrior Player of the Week on Oct. 24, as well.
On Thursday in BC's 4-0 win over Merrimack, Burt made 20 saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season. On Friday, Burt stopped all 28 shots her way as she helped back the Eagles to a 1-0 victory over the Warriors in the decisive game of the best-of-three series. Her 28 saves matched her second-highest save total in any of her 30 career shutouts.
Burt enters the Hockey East semifinals on Saturday among the national leaders in every goaltending category: sixth in goals against average (1.59), sixth in save percentage (.931), tied for fifth in shutouts (7) and seventh in winning percentage (.773 with a 23-5-5 record).
In the NCAA record book, Burt is eighth in career wins (88 wins) and tied for fifth in career shutouts (30) as a junior.
Sixth-ranked Boston College (25-5-5) returns to the ice on Saturday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. The top-seeded Eagles will face fifth-seeded Vermont in the Hockey East semifinals at BU's Walter Brown Arena, before second seed Northeastern faces third-seeded Boston University at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available at goterriers.com.
