Eagles' sophomore led the nation with eight points last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's hockey sophomore forward Caitrin Lonergan (Roslindale, Mass.) was tabbed Hockey East's Warrior Player of the Week on Monday after stand-out efforts in the Eagles' three games last week.
Â
Lonergan tied for the national scoring lead last week, posting eight points in the 2-0-1 week for BC. She netted three goals and added five assists as BC defeated Northeastern on Tuesday and earned a tie at home and a win at Boston University on Friday and Saturday.
Â
On Tuesday, Lonergan posted a career-high five points in the Eagles' 7-3 win over Northeastern. That total included her second hat trick of the season and two assists. Among her goals were BC's game-winning goal and her first shorthanded tally of the year. She also set up Daryl Watts' first goal and Kenzie Kent's third-period strike. Â
Â
On Friday, Lonergan had the primary set-up of Watts' power-play goal that brought BC level with BU early in the second period. The teams finished tied at 2-2. Saturday at BU, Lonergan recorded a pair of assists, both primary set ups on the Eagles' game-winning and insurance goals in the third period to push the final score to 4-2 after the teams finished the second period tied at 2-2.
Â
This year, Lonergan is ranked second nationally in points (41), points per game (2.41), goals (18), assists (23) and assists per game (1.35). She leads the nation in power-play points (12), power-play assists (9), game-winning goals (4) and hat tricks (2). She is fourth nationally in goals per game (1.06) and plus/minus (+22).
