Eagles’ rookie forward nabs her fifth conference weekly award
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's hockey freshman forward Daryl Watts was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, marking the fourth time this season she's earned that award and the fifth time this year she's drawn a league weekly honor.
Â
In a pair of wins over Merrimack last week, Watts picked up three points from two goals and one assist. She was Hockey East's fourth-leading scorer on the weekend
Â
On Friday, she tallied a power-play goal in BC's 4-1 win at Kelley Rink, before notching her nation-leading eighth power-play goal on Saturday to kick-start the Eagles' come-from-behind win. Down 2-0, Watts' score pulled BC within one midway through the second period. She later added an assist on Makenna Newkirk's insurance power-play goal in the third period.
Â
Her three points this weekend pushed her season total to 47, which is tops in the nation among all players. Her 22 goals and 25 assists both rank second nationally, while she also leads the nation in power-play goals (8) and power-play points (16).
Â
Watts is the two-time defending AHCA National Rookie of the Month and Hockey East Rookie of the Month, having also won national player of the month in October.
Â
The second-ranked Eagles have entered college hockey's traditional winter break, and will return to the ice on Tuesday, Jan. 2, when they travel to face Merrimack for a third-straight game. Puck drop at Lawler Rink is set for 4 p.m.
