Dair Comes Out on Top at Brown Invitational
November 06, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Two Eagles also competed at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston College women's tennis team competed in two competitions this past weekend – six athletes partook in the Brown Classic invitational in Providence, R.I. and the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic in Lakewood, Fla.
Senior Asiya Dair dominated this weekend, winning the Brown Classic. She shone during her singles matches on all three days against Brown and Denver, sealing her final win 6-3, 6-0. Dair and partner freshman Natasha Irani went two for three in doubles triumphs.
Junior Jackie Urbinati and freshman Reagan Posorske each slated a singles win. The doubles pairing of Urbinati and freshman Loren Haukova won a match, while Posorske and her double partner, sophomore Micayla Casella, also nabbed a win in doubles play.
"I was pleased to see the determination and focus from Asiya Dair as she competed this weekend at Brown," said coach John Sherwood when asked about the weekend. "Her court presence was calmer and more deliberate. She was able to maintain focus during the key points, which allowed her to play the best tennis I have seen from her during the fall season. Overall, we dropped a few close matches that will be 'must wins' during the spring season. Our players will need to work on situational awareness, tactical point construction, and ability to fight through adversity as they train during the months leading into the seasons start in January."
Sophomore Dasha Possokhova and freshman Maria Ross represented the Eagles at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic this past weekend, as well. They both dropped their singles match, but won as a pair against Julianna Curtis and Maha Omberg of Florida Gulf Coast University.
