November 06, 2017 | Men's Hockey
The Eagles welcome UConn to Kelley Rink for a 7 p.m. puck drop; BC has never lost to the Huskies at home
BOSTON COLLEGE vs. CONNECTICUT
Connecticut makes its way back to The Heights for another mid-week affair for the fourth time in program history. Boston College has come away unscathed in all three of those meetings, winning two games and trying another. The Huskies have come hard at the Eagles when they make their way to Kelley Rink as both BC wins have come by one goal. In the last meeting at Kelley Rink, JD Dudek scored his third-career game-winning goal but the real star in the last meeting was Joseph Woll, stopping a career-best 42 of UConn's 43 attempts. In the two teams' first-ever meeting, UConn shocked the Eagles on a Wednesday night (Nov. 5, 2014) by upseting BC, 1-0, after Boston College transfer Evan Richardson scored the game-winning goal. Since that opening defeat in 2014, BC has not lost to UConn since (4-0-1). Another large in tie-in to the BC-UConn series is the relationship with Huskies' head coach Mike Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh became as assistant coach at Boston College before the 1995-96 season and was promoted to associate head coach in 2004. Cavanaugh assisted York for 773 games and helped the Eagles win four national titles in 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
UCONN RECONNAISSANCE
The Huskies come into Tuesday's mid-week matchup with a 3-6-1 record and a 2-3-1 Hockey East record, most recently splitting at home against Vermont. Junior Maxim Letunov (2-7-9) and Johnny Austin (1-8-9) possess UConn's most points this season but the Huskies have relied heavily on sophomore Alexander Payusov, who has scored over 20 percent of all of Connecticut's offense. Payusov has accounted for six of UConn's 28 tallies and is tied for ninth in the country, averaging 0.75 goals per game. Four of Payusov's six goals have come on the power play as the second-year forward is one of seven skaters in all of college hockey to have scored four or more power play goals.
