Freshman Eagles recognized for outstanding performances last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman skipper Sophia Reineke (sailing) and freshman forward Christopher Grando (men's hockey) have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.
Â
Reineke took home first place overall this past weekend racing in the Laser Performance Singlehanded Nationals Regatta, winning the national championship in the event. At the end of day one, a mere nine points separated the top nine contenders, but the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, product topped the final leaderboard at the end of the weekend by a margin of one point over the second-place finisher and three points over the third-place finisher. Reineke won the Eagles' eight women's Singlehanded National Championship, and the fifth in the last six years.Â
Â
Grando posted points in each of game of the Eagles' two-game sweep of Merrimack this weekend. On Friday, he assisted on the game-tying goal in the first period, helping set up the Eagles' 3-1 win. On Saturday, he scored his first-career game-winning goal in the first period in the return game in North Andover. The Islip, N.Y. native is now tied for the team lead in goal scoring with Casey Fitzgerald and Christopher Brown, having scored his third tally of the season.
Â
Men's hockey (3-5-1) returns tonight, when the Eagles host Connecticut at Kelley Rink at 7 p.m. Sailing closes its fall season on Nov. 11, when the team competes in the ISSA Atlantic Coast Championship. Â
