
Eagles Fall in Straight Sets to Tar Heels

Volleyball will face NC State on Sunday
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Boston College volleyball fell in three sets, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-15, to North Carolina Friday night in Chapel Hill.
The Eagles and the Tar Heels paced each other in the first set, with the biggest lead only being four points at any given points, but UNC ultimately took the first frame. Faltering in the first threw off BC, ensuring a quick three-set victory for UNC.
Sophomore Cat Balido and graduate Lynn Braakhuis led the Eagles with nine kills apiece, while junior McKenna Goss notched seven kills and team-high 12 digs. Sophomore Jill Strockis had 12 digs on the night as well and sophomore Jane DeJarld set the match high in assists with 28 on the night.
Taylor Borup led the match, and the Tar Heels, with 11 kills while Mia Fradenburg had match-high 16 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
There was no defined lead until the Tar Heels found a tiny 3-0 run to take a four point lead at 12-8. A late 6-2 run from the Eagles, including a kill from Goss and four big blocks, tied the frame up at 23-all, but UNC found the last two points and the set victory, 25-23.
SET 2
UNC kicked off the second set with a 5-1 run that was broken up by a kill from freshman Amaka Chukwujekwu. The teams traded points until the Tar Heels hit another run, 6-1 this time, which they rode to a 25-13 second-set victory.
SET 3
The Eagles found their first lead of the match in the third after kills from Goss, Balido and Braakhuis brought on a 5-2 run. UNC then went on a 9-2 run, cementing a UNC lead and the Tar Heels took the third frame, 25-15, and the match.
