Gote and Haverhals earn first-team honors for second straight year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Three members of the Boston College field hockey team were named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Northeast Region team, the organization announced on Monday. Junior captains Ymke Rose Gote and Frederique Haverhals earned first-team honors and classmate Lucy Lytle collected second-team accolades. The honors were the second for all three Eagles.
Â
Gote and Haverhals tied for second on the Eagles with five assists each and both scored two goals to notch nine points. Both were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team. Lytle tied for second on the team with five goals and was third with 12 points, adding two assists on the season.
Â
Gote, a Amstelveen, The Netherlands native, started all 19 games for the Eagles in the midfield. Her two goals in 2017 came in the double overtime win against Pacific and the overtime loss to No. 7 North Carolina. Last season, Gote went on to earn NFHCA All-America Third-Team accolades. She also picked up All-ACC Second-Team honors as a sophomore and junior and was a member of the ACC All-Tournament team as a freshman.
Â
Haverhals, a Warmond, The Netherlands, native, started all 19 games for the Eagles at back. She notched the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Northeastern on Oct. 13 and also scored in the season-opening win against Quinnipiac. Haverhals earned All-America First-Team honors from the NFHCA. She is a two-time All-ACC Second-Team honoree and collected All-Northeast Region honors as a freshman as well.
Â
Lytle, who hails from Lake Forest, Ill., started 17 games for the Eagles at forward. She missed two games due to injury. She scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give BC the victory over then No. 14 Northwestern on Sept. 1. Lytle collected NFHCA All-Northeast Second-Team honors a year ago and has been named to the organization's National Academic Squad both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Â
The NFHCA announced 160 student-athletes were named to either first or second teams across the five regions. The All-Region squads consisted of 63 seniors, 49 juniors, 25 sophomores and 23 freshmen.
