Hawkins posts fourth double-double of the season (19 points/12 rebounds)
How It Happened:
Providence shot nearly 60.0% from the floor for the game and used a 19-9 run midway through the first half to pull away from Boston College en route to an 86-66 win at the Dunkin Donuts Center tonight.
There were eight lead changes and four ties through the first 12 minutes of play, as both teams were hot from the floor offensively. Deontae Hawkins tallied 13 of BC's first 23 points, including a 3-pointer with 9:47 left in the first half which gave the Eagles a 23-20 advantage. But a 19-6 Friar run over the next 6:20 put the lead into double digits, as a Jalen Lindsey 3-pointer made it 39-29 with 3:27 left in the half. The Eagles would trail by nine - 44-35 - at the break. Providence - one of the nation's top 3-point shooting teams - connected on 7-of-10 from beyond the arc en route to shooting 59.3% from the floor (16-27) through the first 20 minutes.
Providence began the second half on a 12-4 push through the first 4:38, connecting on its ninth 3-pointer of the night to take a 17-point advantage - 56-39 - with 15:12 to play. The Eagles would trail by as many as 22 in the second half.
