Kauffman and Dorn score second-half goals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The seventh-seed Boston College field hockey team fell, 3-2, in overtime to the No. 2 seed Duke at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky., in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. The 12th-ranked Eagles (11-8) came back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game with the second-ranked Blue Devils (16-2), but could not capitalize in extra time.
Â
Duke scored two goals in the first eight minutes to take an early lead but the Eagles stormed back. Freshman Maddy Dorn scored her first collegiate goal on her first collegiate shot in the 49th minute. Junior Carly Kauffman tied the game with 2:34 to play to send it to overtime.
Â
BC withstood three Duke corner opportunities with no time left in regulations to force extra time. The Blue Devils scored four minutes into the first overtime on a corner attempt. Sophomore goalie Sarah Dwyer made the initial save and senior Alesandra Miller made a defensive stop to keep the ball out of the net, but Duke's third attempt was successful on the scrum in front of the cage.

COACH QUOTE
Head Coach Kelly Doton
"It took us too long to get into the game. You can't give up two goals to a good team like Duke. I was proud of the changes we implemented at halftime and the way we battled back to tie the game. It was physical. Both teams battled. We had some players step up and play key roles for us down the stretch. I'm proud of these guys. The ACC Tournament is tough. Every team plays at such a high level. We were just on the short end today."
