Offensive Outburst Sweeps Vermont on the Road

The Eagles have won five-straight games and are four points clear of first place after a 5-1 win at Vermont Saturday
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Boston College's offense broke out for a five-goal performance and a 5-1 triumph over Vermont on Saturday night at the Gutterson Center, completing the weekend sweep and extending the Eagles' winning streak to five games.
Freshman Christopher Grando made a statement, scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winning short-handed goal at 9:52 of the second period and a three-point performance to put BC on his back. Captain Christopher Brown netted a power play tally while sophomore Graham McPhee and Jacob Tortora also found the back of the net.
Sophomore Ryan Edquist racked up his second win of the season in his third start between the pipes, turning away 23-of-24 UVM attempts.
The Eagles outshot Vermont, 34-24, marking the fifth-straight outing BC has outriggered its opponent.

- Freshman Christopher Grando returned to his scoring ways after tallying his first-career short-handed goal and then followed it up with his second goal of the night at 12:19 of the third to ice the contest. Grando's short-handed goal is the second shorty on the season since Julius Mattila netted one against UConn on Nov. 7. The Islip, N.Y. native also added an assist for his second-career multi-point performance. Grando's two multi-point showings occurred in back-to-back fashion as the rookie accounted for five points (2-3-5) at UVM this weekend. As it played out, Grando's short-handed goal also stood as the Eagles' game-winning goal, also the first of his career.
- Sophomore Graham McPhee tallied his third goal of the season and first since scoring at Providence on Oct. 15. The Las Vegas, Nev. native also assisted on Christopher Brown's power play goal for his second multi-point performance of the season (Oct. 15)
- Jacob Tortora scored his second goal as an Eagle and first since tallying Boston College's first goal of the season in the opener against Quinnipiac on Oct. 6.
- JD Dudek skated in his 86th game in the maroon and gold on Saturday at Vermont and recorded an assist in 14 separate outings. Tonight marked his first-career multi-assist performance as the Auburn, N.H. native helped out on a pair of Eagle goals.
- Kevin Lohan picked up his first point as an Eagle with the assist on Grando's short-handed, game-winning marker. Lohan accrued nine assists in his time at Michigan and is now in double digits in the helper category for his career. Lohan now has 12 points (2-10-12) on his career.
- Ryan Edquist also recorded his first-career assist, making the save and swatting it out to Lohan in the slot. It marks the first assists for a Boston College goaltender since Thatcher Demko tallied one against UMass Lowell on Feb. 22, 2016.
- Boston College is now on a five-game winning streak, its longest stretch since last season when the Eagles rattled off six-straight wins from October 28 to November 13. It also marks Boston College's first true road sweep after taking out Maine on back-to-back nights on Nov. 4-5, 2016.
- Logan Hutsko assisted on Grando's second tally to expand his point streak to four games, the longest of any Eagle this season. During that tear, the Tampa, Fla. native has accounted for six points (2-4-6) over the course of the last four games. Casey Fitzgerald (0-2-2), Aapeli Rasanen (2-1-3) and Grando (2-3-5) have also registered points in consecutive games.

FIRST GOAL (1-0 – Vermont) FIRST PERIOD – Ross Colton– 8:34 – POWER PLAY
• Sophomore Jesper Mattila was whistled for cross checking at 9:53 and Vermont cashed in at 11:26 to grab the early 1-0 lead. The Catamounts broke the puck out of their end charged on by Matt O'Donnell. Ross Colton swooped around, scooped up O'Donnell's drop off and skated it down the right side of the nice while the Eagles penalty kill tried to get set. Colton stepped up and snapped it past sophomore Ryan Edquist from the right circle for the power play tally.
SECOND GOAL (1-1 – Boston College) SECOND PERIOD – Graham McPhee – 8:40 – EVEN STRENGTH
• Graham McPhee evened things up at 8:40 after a long, sustained possession in UVM's end. McPhee started the play, rimming the puck behind the net to the far corner where Christopher Brown was able to settle it. Brown and JD Dudek got into a battle with a couple Catamounts and Dudek came away with it on the left dot and took a chance on UVM goalie Stefanos Lekkas. The puck made its way towards the net and McPhee was able to gather it and stuff past Lekkas's left pad to tie it up, 1-1.
THIRD GOAL (2-1 – Boston College) SECOND PERIOD – Christopher Grando – 9:52 – EVEN STRENGTH
• David Cotton took a slash at 9:29 but the Eagle penalty kill stepped up and turned it into a lead at 9:52 of the second period. Edquist made the initial save and the puck caromed out to Kevin Lohan in BC's slot. Lohan quickly relayed the puck up the ice to Christopher Grando ahead. Grando took off with it, eluded a couple Catamounts and was off the races, capping the play with a nice deke around Lekkas for the short-handed breakaway marker and a 2-1 lead.
FOURTH GOAL (3-1 – Boston College) SECOND PERIOD – Jacob Tortora – 14:58 – EVEN STRENGTH
• Boston College took a two-goal lead into intermission on a beautiful goal in transition capped off by Jacob Tortora. JD Dudek was the catalyst, getting the puck out of the neutral zone to Grando streaking down the left side. Grando perfectly timed his pass through the slot to Tortora where finished off the tip-in on the near side at 14:58 for a 3-1 advantage.
FIFTH GOAL (4-1 – Boston College) THIRD PERIOD – Christopher Brown – 8:15 – POWER PLAY
• The Eagles blew the top off the game at 8:15 of the third period after Christopher Brown attacked on the power play. Casey Fitzgerald touched the puck atop the zone after a broken play down to McPhee on the left side of the zone. Brown broke free from the play and hauled in McPhee's feed and had a good look on Lekkas, beating him glove side for the 4-1 advantage and a power play marker.
SIXTH GOAL (5-1 – Boston College) THIRD PERIOD – Christopher Grando – 12:19 – POWER PLAY
• Boston College closed out the scoring on the night after Grando netted his second off a play in the neutral zone. Aapeli Rasanen won a battle as he was headed towards the near boards and connected with Logan Hutsko down the left side in UVM's zone. With no one between the two descending Eagles and Lekkas, Hutsko threw the goalie off his base by zipping it over to Grando for the quick hitter just below the right dot at 12:19 to seal the 5-1 count.
