Women Take Second at New England Championships

Gwinn and Leff lead the Eagles to second place finish
Boston, Mass. – The Boston College women's cross country team finished in second place overall with 119 points at the New England Championships on Saturday.

Today's race marked the second race in a row in which senior Ashbrook Gwinn crossed the line first for the Eagles in the 5K. Senior Laura Leff also finished in the top ten with a seventh place finish. The Eagles improved on their performances at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown as all seven runners in the varsity race worked together at the mile and through the 2K mark.

The Eagles also worked together throughout the JV race, earning a first place finish.

BC Highlights
- Gwinn finished in second place overall with a time of 17:55.8, averaging 5:39.0 per mile. She was one of only two runners in a field of 194 to break 18 minutes on the Franklin Park course.
- Leff was also among the top ten finishers, capturing seventh place with a time of 18:13.4.
- Freshman Lauren White took third place for the Eagles, crossing the line at 18:43.9 to earn a 28th place finish.
- Sophomore Chloe Hautiere and senior Clarissa Modde rounded out the top five scorers for the Eagles, crossing the line at 18:51.1 and 18:59.6, respectively. Hautiere captured 37th place and Modde took 45th.
- Freshmen Kylee Raftis (19:07) and Katherine DeLoreto (19:45.1) also had strong performances for the Eagles in the varsity race.
- The Eagles also won the JV race as they were led by freshman Miranda Thompson (18:56.3) and junior Sarah Marvin (19:05.8). Both girls ran step for step throughout the entire race to lead the pack. Freshman Colleen Sliney (19:06.8) joined them at the 3K. Thompson won the race and Marvin finished in third overall followed by Sliney, who crossed the line in fourth place.
Race Highlights
- New Hampshire won the meet with 101 points.
- Senior Heather MacLean of UMass Amherst won the race with a time of 17:36.1.
- The Eagles will travel to Louisville, Kentucky to compete at the NCAA Pre-Nationals at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14th.
