Eagles gain a pair of recognitions after stand-out weeks on the ice
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A pair of Boston College women's hockey players were honored with Hockey East weekly awards on Monday after standout performances last week.
Senior goaltender Katie Burt (Lynn, Mass.) was tabbed the league's Warrior Player of the Week, while freshman forward Daryl Watts (Toronto, Ontario) was selected as the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week.
Last week, Burt went 2-0-0 with wins at Boston University and Maine. On Saturday at BU, she set a career high with 43 saves, the first time she'd ever seen more than 37 shots in a game in her career. That win was her 53rd victory in league play, and set the Hockey East record for career wins by a goaltender. She added to the total on Sunday with a 12-save win against the Black Bears. Burt also now has 97 career victories overall, and is three shy of becoming the fifth goaltender in NCAA history to reach 100 career wins.
Watts again paced the Eagles, posting seven points in the team's two wins. On Saturday, she scored two goals and added an assist in the 4-3 win at BU, and followed that with two goals and two assists on Sunday in the 7-2 victory over Maine. Watts now leads the nation in scoring – both in points (21) and points per game (3.00) – as well as goals (10), shots per game (6.29) and power-play points (7). She's second in goals per game (1.43), tied for second in assists per game (1.57) and tied for third in assists (11) and power-play goals (4).
This is Burt's first Hockey East weekly honor of the season, and the 15th of her career – including her third player of the week nod. For Watts, this is her third conference weekly honor of her career. She has been recognized all three weeks the Eagles have played this season.
No. 2 Boston College (6-0-1) returns to the ice on Friday, Nov. 3, when the team hosts No. 9 Providence (6-2-2, 3-0-0 HEA) in a matchup of the league's last two undefeated teams in conference play. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Kelley Rink and the game will be streamed live on ESPN3, which is accessible at WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.
