Eagles Compete in Brown Quad, Regional Championships
October 23, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Freshman Reagan Posorske shined at Brown Quad going undefeated, 3-0
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston College women's tennis team competed in two competitions this past weekend: the Brown Quad that took place Oct. 20-22 in Providence, R.I. and the Regional Championships which took place in Philadelphia, Pa. from Oct. 19 through Oct. 24.
ÂAt the Brown Quad, freshman Reagan Posorske shined, going 3-0 on the weekend during single competition, while sophomore Elene Tsokilauri was undefeated as well, 2-0, against Dartmouth and Brown.
Â
Sophomore Dasha Possokhova picked up a singles win over Yale, while sophomore Micayla Casella earned victories over her Yale and Brown opponents. Freshman Maria Ross garnered two wins over Dartmouth and Brown.
Â
The doubles teams of Posorske and Tsokilauri, and Possokhova and Ross picked up wins against Brown, cementing a sweep over Brown.
Â
"I thought we had a pretty good weekend at the Brown Quad," said head coach Nigel Bentley about the tournament. "It was an opportunity for some of our players to play a lot of tennis. We have a really young team so we are learning a lot of new patterns and strategies. Overall, it was a good chance to compete against some other regional opponents and we had a lot of fun."Â
Â
In Philadelphia, the Eagles competed in the ITA Regionals which included a qualifying singles draw, a Friday consolation draw, a singles draw and a doubles draw.
Â
No Eagles competed in the qualifying singles draw, but senior Asiya Dair led BC in the singles draw, going 2-1 and earning wins in her matches against Hofstra and Stony Brook competition. Dair was the only Eagle to snag a win in the singles draw.
Â
BC really showed up during the doubles draw. The pair of Dair and freshman Natasha Irani won their first two rounds of doubles as did the pair of sophomore Kylie Wilcox and junior Jackie Urbinati. Both pairs had a bye in the first round.
Â
"We came into the ITA Regionals with high expectations, and the goal to qualify players for the National Tournament," said assistant coach John Sherwood on the Regional Championship. "We held the No. 3 seed in singles and the No. 1 seeded doubles team going into the tournament. The bottom line is we under performed in both draws. At this level every little variable can and will affect the outcome.  We need to approach these events in a more focused, determined and professional manner. One hundred percent effort is expected with every point."
