BOSTON  – The No. 10 Boston College field hockey team improved to 11-0 in non-conference action with the 3-2 overtime win over crosstown rival Boston University on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.
Â
Freshman Fusine Govaert tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season just 3:03 into the first extra session to secure the win for Boston College (11-5).
Â
BC got on the board first just 3:13 into the game when Alesandra Miller's put-back of Frederique Haverhals' blocked shot off a penalty corner beat starting BU keeper Millie Baker.
Â
Boston University (9-6) evened the scoring at 19:10 when Allie Renzie beat BC goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer after Kara Enoch threaded a pass between two defenders to set up the play. The teams played evenly the rest of the first half before Lucy Lytle's fifth of the season gave the Eagles a one-goal advantage with 2:50 left in the first.
Â
BU came out strong in the second and had a 6-0 edge in shots in the first 10 minutes of the stanza before BC's first attempt. The Terriers continued to hold the edge as the half continued and the teams traded a series of green cards. BU capitalized on the final card, converting a penalty corner at 63:11 to even the score at 2-2 and force the extra session. Â
Â
The victory pushed the Eagles' winning streak to three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- GOAL: BC 1, BU 0; TIME: 3:13: After Alessandra Miller sent a high lofted pass into the circle, BC was awarded a penalty corner when the goaltender played it. Miller inserted the ball and Frederique Haverhals' shot was blocked, but it fell to Miller at the left post who pushed it past the goaltender for the game's first goal
- GOAL: BC 1, BU 1; TIME: 19:10: The Terriers collected a long pass out of the back and Kara Enoch ran onto it, threading a pass between defenders to Allie Renzi. Dwyer came out to defend the pass, but Renzi sent a high shot over her for the goal to tie it up.
- GOAL: BC 2, BU 1; TIME: 33:10: Once into the BU half, Miller dribbled across midfield and played Caroline McGovern ahead into the circle. McGovern got deeper and sent in a pass across the face of the cage, where Lucy Lytle was on the far post for the tip in and an BC lead just before the half.
- GOAL: BC 2, BU 2; TIME: 63:11: As a BC player was shown a green card, the Terriers drew a penalty corner almost immediately off the restart. Kiley Gallagher's initial shot off the insertion was blocked, but Katherine Scheerer gathered the rebound and put her shot high to level the score at 2-2 with under seven minutes to play
- GOAL: BC 3, BU; TIME: 73:03: In overtime, the Eagles' backs played passes back and forth across the field, setting up Frederique Haverhals' long outlet pass down the sideline to Ymke Rose Gote. Gote collected the pass and took space through the midfield and into the circle. She cut inside and then sent a pass through to Fusine Govaert, who's shot from the penalty spot went back across goal and past Terriers goalkeeper Kathleen Keegan for the gamewinner.
