BC defense was dominate in loss to Duke
DURHAM, N.C. – Boston College volleyball's defense dominated, but it was not enough to overcome Duke on Sunday afternoon.
In the first set, the Eagles took the lead, later finding its way to the 20-point mark first, but the Blue Devils won the first set contest, 25-23. Duke then took the next two sets, winning by eight and seven points, respectively.
BC tallied 52 digs to Duke's 44, and recorded seven blocks. Sophomore Jill Strockis contributed match-high 18 digs, while freshman Amaka Chukwujekwu registered another match high with six blocks. Offensively, junior McKenna Goss and senior Sol Calvete added eight kills apiece. Sophomore Jane DeJarld and freshman Madison McKnight recorded 13 digs apiece.
The Blue Devils were paced by Cadie Bates, who registered 14 kills, a .400 hitting average and 16.5 points.

- Goss had a .500 hitting percentage in the first set and a .333 in the entirety of the match, while the team as a whole hit .333.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
The Blue Devils open the match with three points, but are unable to hold their lead as the Eagles catch up and the two trade points. BC finds its way to 20 points first but Duke tied it up at 21-all. Three kills from Duke sealed the first set victory, 25-23.
SET 2
Early on, Duke found a 6-1 run, and though the points went back and forth, Duke maintained their lead through the entirety of the set, winning 25-17.
SET 3
A block from Cat Balido and Chukwujekwu handed the Eagles the opening point of the set. A kill from Duke at 16-11 led the Blue Devils into a 5-0 run from which the Eagles could not recover. Duke took the third set, 25-18, and the match.
