
Eagles Prevail Over Georgia Tech in First ACC Win

Four Eagles notch kills in the double digits.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball earned their first ACC success of 2017 Friday night over Georgia Tech.
After a first set hurdle, the Eagles came back to win the next three sets to achieve a conference victory. BC hit the ground running in the second set, taking a 12-point lead right away and kicking off the rest of the match.
Graduate Lynn Braakhuis paced the Eagles with 13 kills, while senior Sol Calvete, junior McKenna Goss and sophomore Cat Balido registered 11 apiece. Sophomore Jill Strockis was a defensive force, recording a match-high 15 digs, while sophomore Jane DeJarld also notched digs in the double digits (12). DeJarld led the match with 29 assists.
The Yellow Jackets were led by 20 kills from Gabriela Stavnetchei for 20.5 points on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
After opening the set on a 5-1 run, Georgia Tech found another 4-0 run beginning at 11-7. The Yellow Jackets kept the lead for the entirety of the, winning 25-21.
SET 2
The Eagles kicked off a 15-3 run after a kill from Amaka Chukwujekwu sparked it. This run saw kills from four different Eagles and three of Balido's service aces. Georgia Tech could not catch back up as the teams traded points. BC ultimately took the set, 25-17, after a Calvete kill.
SET 3
The teams came out evenly matched to begin the set, but at 16-all, a kill from West fueled at 9-1 run to put the Eagles out at 24-17. Georgia Tech held BC to match point for two rallies, but a Braakhuis kill secured the third set victory, 25-19, and the match advantage, 2-1.
SET 4
Three attack errors from Georgia Tech gave BC the first three points of the set. The teams went back and forth, though the Eagles held the lead for the entirety of the set. A kill from Balido and two kills from Calvete put BC at match point and a block from Calvete and Chukwujekwu cemented the victory, 25-20.
