First-year backstopper notched Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors after a career-best 42 saves in a 2-1 win over UConn and backed it up with a 6-4 win over Notre Dame on Jan. 28
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Freshman goaltender Joseph Woll earned his first-career league award after earning Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors after his career performance against Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 24 in addition to backstopping BC to another victory over Notre Dame on Jan. 28.
The Boston College defense was anchored by Woll's terrific showing against the Huskies on Jan. 24 after UConn tossed 43 shots his way. The St. Louis native stopped a career-best 42 to anchor the Eagles' 2-1 victory. It marked his second-career 40-save showing after he turned the trick against Denver in the second game of the season on Oct. 8.
The first-year backstopper currently possesses the nation's 15th-best save percentage (.923), stopping 624-of-676 shots faced. He is 13-8-1 (.614) on the season, good for the 23rd best winning percentage in all of college hockey. Woll's 2.40 goals against average stands as the 25th-best mark in the NCAA to date.
Woll stopped 29-of-33 shots faced against the Irish on Jan. 28, just enough to preserve Boston College's third-straight victory.
Boston College is currently in first place in Hockey East play (12-3-1), three points clear of second place Boston University.
Woll joins Hockey East Player of the Week Dylan Sikura (Northeastern) and Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week Collin Delia (Merrimack) as this week's Hockey East award winners.
