Eagles sweep doubles play in road match
HANOVER, N.H. – The Boston College women's tennis team earned the doubles point and brought its late matches to the third set before falling to Dartmouth College, 5-2, in Saturday's nonconference road contest.
BC (1-2) swept Dartmouth (2-0) in doubles play. The pairings of seniors Lexi Borr and Emily Safron (second doubles), along with junior Asiya Dair and sophomore Jackie Urbinati (third doubles) each won for the second straight match. Freshmen Kylie Wilcox and Dasha Possokhova generated a 6-5 lead in their unfinished first-doubles match.
Dair, ranked 103rd nationally, defeated No. 123 Taylor Ng in a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 first doubles win for the Eagles.
The Big Green held a 3-2 lead when the match came down to fifth and sixth singles. In the deciding match, freshman Elene Tsokilauri won her first set before Dartmouth's Allison McCann claimed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in sixth singles.
In the game's final match, Safron's fifth-singles contest went down to the wire against No. 104 Racquel Lyn, before Lyn won a third-set tiebreaker.
BC completes its road trip against a third straight Ivy League opponent when it faces Harvard next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Boston. Then the Eagles host Rhode Island in their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
