Basketball's Bowman passed on chance to play football, former-baseball captain earns NCAA honors and lacrosse coach makes U.S National Team
Men's Basketball: For the second time this season, most recently on Saturday, Jan. 21, freshman guard Ky Bowman recorded more than 30 points against North Carolina, grabbing the attention of NC head coach Roy Williams, as well as the rest of the ACC.
Following his passion for basketball, Bowman turned down multiple college football opportunities, including an offer from Nick Saban at Alabama, so he could prove what he is capable of on a court.
Baseball: The Eagles will play the sixth annual ALS Awareness Game at Fenway Park on Saturday, April 22.
The yearly game honors former-captain Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2012. With the help of family and friends, Frates has been an incredible ambassador to the efforts to increase awareness of the disease, which includes raising $220 million in the summer of 2014 with the help of the Ice Bucket Challenge and social media.
In early December, Frates was presented the 2017 NCAA Inspiration Award in his home in Beverly, Mass., and was once again honored at the NCAA Honors Celebration this past week in Nashville.
Accepting the award at the celebration on his behalf was his father, John, his brother, Andrew and Director of Athletics Brad Bates.
Lacrosse: Assistant coach Brooke Griffin (Maryland '15) was among the list of 18 players named to the U.S. Women's National Team that will compete in the 2017 Federation of International Women's World Cup announced on Friday, Jan 20.
Joined by five college teammates, the former Terp will try to help the U.S. defend its gold medal this summer in Guildford, England.
