Eagles open at home against William & Mary
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's tennis team kicks off its 2017 dual match season at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The Eagles return 11 players from last year's squad and added four freshmen.
Â
Several seniors played pivotal roles last season. Aidan McNulty played first singles in 14 of 24 matches in 2016. He also went 12-9 in second doubles with Alexandre Thirouin, who graduated last year. Hank Workman went 8-11 in first doubles last year with then-senior Kyle Childree. Workman went 5-1 in singles play and 4-3 in doubles last fall.
Â
Four freshmen will get their first dual play experience. Derek Austin (13-3 singles, 7-5 doubles in the fall), Alexander Chieffalo (5-1 singles, 3-1 doubles), Nicolas deQuesada (3-1 singles) and Sean Mullins (6-3 singles, 5-6 doubles) all finished the fall season with winning overall records.
Â
BC once again faces a tough ACC slate and will host the nation's two top-ranked teams within a week of each other. The Eagles host No. 1 Virginia – the two-time defending national champions – on Saturday, April 15 and No. 2 Wake Forest – the reigning ACC champions – on Friday, April 21. BC also visits No. 25 Duke on Friday, March 24 and No. 9 North Carolina on Friday, April 14.
