The junior goaltender sets the Hockey East career shutout record
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior goaltender Katie Burt earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday. This marks her third conference weekly honor of the season after earlier Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week nods.
In three games last week, the Lynn, Mass., product went 3-0-0 while posting an 0.67 goals against average and a league-leading .967 save percentage. She also recorded one shutout – her 27th career shutout and 19th in Hockey East play – which lifted her into sole possession of Hockey East's career shutout record in league games.
On Tuesday against Harvard in the team's outdoor Frozen Fenway game, Burt allowed one goal while making 22 saves in the Eagles' 3-1 win.
Friday's shutout against Merrimack saw Burt make 12 saves en route to the record-setting shutout mark as BC topped the Warriors, 1-0.
Saturday at Merrimack, Burt stopped 25 of 26 shots in the Eagles' 3-1 road win to complete the perfect week.
Burt now has 27 career shutouts and ranks eighth on the NCAA career chart. She also has 79 career wins, which is one shy of the Boston College career record (80 by Molly Schaus '11) and ranks 12th on the NCAA career victories chart.
This week's defensive player of the week award is the 18th in-season conference honor – and 12th weekly award – of Burt's career.
Sixth-ranked Boston College (16-3-3, 12-2-2 HEA) returns to the ice this weekend with a two-game series at Vermont (10-7-7, 6-3-5 HEA). The teams kick off the weekend at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, before wrapping the road swing at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21. Both games will be played at UVM's Gutterson Fieldhouse.
