Unbeaten Run Moves to 11 with Road Win at Merrimack

Anastos, McLean and Kent tally as the Eagles' Hockey East record goes to 12-2-2
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – One night after scoring the game-winning goal with just 2:30 to play, Andie Anastos tallied a goal and assisted on the game-winning strike to lead the sixth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team over Merrimack 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Lawler Rink.
Anastos put the Eagles ahead at 6:54 of the first period before assisting on Haley McLean's game-winner at 17:01 of the first period. Kenzie Kent tallied a shorthanded goal at 7:46 of the third period after the Warriors pulled within one at 18:58 of the second period via Paige Voight's goal.
Katie Burt made 25 saves in her 79th career win. Merrimack goaltender Samantha Ridgewell stopped 38 of the Eagles' 41 shots.
The win pushed the Eagles' undefeated run to 11 games (9-0-2) since Nov. 11. It's the second-longest active undefeated streak in the nation.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st, 6:54 | 1-0, BC GOAL – Makenna Newkirk won the puck at the blue line and skated in, throwing a shot on goal from a hard angle on the right. The rebound bounced in front where Delaney Belinskas' shot was saved as she fell to the ice. The puck popped out to the slot where Andie Anastos came in trailing the play to throw it past Merrimack goalkeeper Samantha Ridgewell for the 1-0 lead. The score was originally called no-goal by the referees, but after video review it was awarded to the Eagles.
- 1st, 17:01 | 2-0, BC GOAL – Anastos pulled the puck off the far boards and connected with Belinskas, who cut across the zone and got off a pair of backhand shots in close. The rebound of her second shot popped out were Haley McLean pushed it in past Ridgewell.
- 2nd, 18:51 | 2-1, MER GOAL - Mikyla Grant-Mentis skated into the zone and played an angled pass low, just in front of an outreached Megan Keller, and Paige Voight knocked it in to pull the Warriors within a goal just before the end of the second period.
- 3rd, 7:46 | 3-1, BC GOAL (SHG) – While on the penalty kill, Kali Flanagan poked the puck loose off a Merrimack defender's stick at the BC blue line, skated out of the zone and down into the Merrimack end. She picked up Kenzie Kent on the far wing, and once she got down low, she put a shot on goal that RIdgewell saved, but the rebound came out to Kent in the slot for the put-back and a two-goal lead.
GAME NOTES
- BC is now undefeated in its last 11 games overall, going 9-0-2 since Nov. 11
- BC has now matched its fourth-longest undefeated streak in program history, which it originally set in during the 2013-14 season
- With the win, BC improved to 5-0-0 all-time against Merrimack and is now 3-0-0 at Lawler Rink against the Warriors
- Overall, BC is now 5-0-0 at Lawler Rink after winning the 2016 Hockey East Tournament championship here last spring
- Andie Anastos netted her 11th goal of the season and added an assist for her eighth multiple-point game of the season
- Anastos now has 13 points in the last seven games
- Anastos pushed her career scoring total to 128 points and leapfrogged into ninth place on the Eagles' career scoring chart … she passed Jennifer Buckley '01, who had 127 career points
- Haley McLean notched her second goal of the season with her first-period tally … it was her first goal since opening the Eagles' 2016-17 account just 13 seconds into the season opener at Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 30 – a span of 22 games between scores
- Kenzie Kent's third-period shorthanded goal was her fourth goal of the season and her second shorthanded goal of the year and of her career
- With the goal, Kent pushed her career scoring total to 96 points … she is now four points back of becoming the 14th player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau.
- Delaney Belinskas picked up two assists, and had three on the weekend
- After a three-game pointless streak, Delaney Belinskas now has assists in back-to-back games
- This was Belinskas' seventh multiple-point game of the season and her fourth in the last eight games
- Makenna Newkirk recorded her team-leading 19th assist of the season on Anastos' first-period goal
- Newkirk now has assists in three straight games
- Katie Burt made 24 saves to earn the win … it was the 79th win of her career … she is now one win shy of the Eagles' career wins record (80, Molly Schaus '11) .. the win also claimed 12th place for her second on the NCAA career wins chart … she entered the game tied with a pair of players
- It was her 46th win in Hockey East play, and she is now six wins back of the record held by Melissa Bourdon '07 … she is now tied with former BC goaltenders Schaus and Corinne Boyles' 14 for third place on the conference's career wins chart
- BC went 0-for-2 on the power-play and was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill
- Kent's shorthanded goal was the team's fifth of the season, third-most in the nation
- Almost simultaneously to the Eagles' victory in North Andover, the United States' Under-18 National Team defeated Canada, 3-1, in the Gold Medal Game at the 2017 IIHF World Championships ... BC associate head coach Courtney Kennedy was an assistant coach with the squad, and former BC goaltender Molly Schaus '11 was the team's goaltending coach ... incoming recruit Cayla Barnes '21 served as captain of the squad ... she earned the Directorate Award as Best Defenseman in the tournament, and was also named U.S. Player of the Game for the second time in the tournament ... additionally, she was named one of Team USA' Top Players at the tournament and shared the tournament's scoring lead with six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in five games as a defenseman
