Senior Lexi Borr and junior Asiya Dair earn national preseason rankings in first ITA poll
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A pair of Boston College women's tennis captains - senior Lexi Borr and junior Asiya Dair – have earned national preseason rankings, which were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association last week. Dair enters the season with the nation's No. 53 ranking, while Borr enters the year ranked No. 109.
Â
Last season, Dair went 12-6 overall in singles and 10-9 in doubles during the spring duals season. She started the season at the No. 2 singles spot, but finished the year in the No. 1 position en route to her second third-team All-ACC selection. She went 5-3 against ranked opponents during the season, and was the ACC Player of the Week the first week of the dual season after upsetting three-time All-American Julia Elbaba from North Carolina.Â
Â
In 2015-16, Borr also earned third-team All-ACC honors after a dual season in which she went 10-13 overall in singles and 9-13 overall in doubles. She split the singles season between the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, and played exclusively on the No. 1 doubles court with Jackie Urbinati. In the fall tournament season, she went 10-2 overall in singles and 8-1 in doubles, winning the top flight of the Harvard Fall Classic.
Â
Borr and Dair are also among the four Eagles selected to participate in the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, which will be held in early October in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Borr and Dair will both enter the qualifying draw in singles, and will team together as a doubles tandem and enter the draw in the pre-qualifying bracket. Additionally, freshmen Kylie Wilcox and Dasha Possakhova will play in the prequalifying doubles bracket of the tournament.
Â
Last season, Borr advanced through qualifying to gain a berth in the 24-player main draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American. Â
Â
The Eagles hit the court to open the fall tournament season next weekend when they compete in the Harvard Fall Invitational, Sept. 23-25, in Boston. In addition to Borr and Dair, senior Emily Safron is also one of the team's three captains for the 2016-17 season.
