Eagles to Enter Season Ranked No. 3

The Eagles collected two first-place votes following one-loss 2015-16 season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's hockey team will open the 2016-17 season ranked No. 3 nationally, per the U.S. College Hockey Online preseason poll released Monday. | View the Preseason USCHO Poll
The Eagles garnered 121 total points, also claiming two first-place votes. Wisconsin will enter the season as the nation's top-ranked team, drawing 143 points and 10 first-place votes, while defending national champion Minnesota is No. 2 with 135 points and three first-place votes. Quinnipiac (93 points) and Clarkson (82 points) round out the top five.
North Dakota, Princeton, Colgate, Northeastern and Boston University are ranked sixth through 10th in the USCHO preseason poll.
This season, BC will face three teams ranked in the preseason poll for a total of nine scheduled games: Quinnipiac on Oct. 21 and 22; Boston University on Nov. 4 and 5, January 7 and 31; and Northeastern on Nov. 20 and 26 and Feb. 10. The Eagles could also meet the Huskies in the second round of the Beanpot on Feb. 7.
The Eagles will also face three teams receiving votes in the poll: Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1; Harvard on Jan. 10 and potentially the second round of the Beanpot on Feb. 7, and Syracuse on Jan. 4.
Boston College is coming off its best season ever, earning a 40-1-0 record in 2015-16. That mark included the first-ever perfect season in Hockey East conference play, men or women, at 24-0-0. After winning the Hockey East regular-season, Hockey East Tournament and Beanpot titles, BC fell to Minnesota in the national championship game for its only loss on the campaign.
In advance of the official start of the 2016-17 season next weekend, BC will prep with a pair of exhibition matches against the Boston Pride of the NWHL and Canadian club team Cambridge Rivulettes. BC will play the Pride on Thursday, Sept. 22, and the Rivulettes on Friday, Sept. 23. Both games will start at 7 p.m. at Kelley Rink at Conte Forum.
