Position: Guard
Height: 6-0
Weight: 165
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
High School: High Point Christian Academy
Basketball Bio
Led High Point Christian Academy to a 24-6 record and the NCISAA Class 3-A championship game as a senior … averaged 11.2 points and 2.2 assists per game … shot .419 from the field and .376 from beyond the arc … HPCA was ranked as high as No. 12 in the country in USA Today's Super 25 poll … played his junior season at Montverde Academy in Florida, which won the national championship that year … led Page High School to the NCHSAA Class 4-A semifinals as a sophomore … played AAU with the Karolina Diamonds.
On why he chose Boston College…
"I think the coaching staff really believes in me as a player. I think we can take our games to the next level; elevate our games, and not just in basketball. I think we can elevate ourselves as people just by living every day and being good people."
On expectations going into summer workouts…
"Hard work every day. I expected a whole lot. I want to be a leader. I want to be vocal. I want to push my teammates. I just want to have what it takes to get to the next level, to be who we want to be as a unit and a basketball team. The stuff that we are doing now counts. It really matters. We need everyone to be on the same page and we need to gel together before we even step on the court."
On how the workouts have gone so far…
"I've been through a lot. I went to Montverde Academy. We did a lot of conditioning during practice so the conditioning here didn't really surprise me. I lifted weights at High Point Christian Academy during the summer so I was used to that. The basketball workouts are going really well. They're going smooth. Coach Spin is probably the most intense out of all the coaches but I love it and I love him. It's going really well right now."
On how his time at Montverde and High Point prepared him for this year…
"I really think it made me tougher, especially the Montverde Academy situation. When I went up there, I didn't play as well as I was supposed to other than the first game that was televised. Other than that, I was kind of a spark off the bench. I wasn't really paid that much attention to and everybody needs to go through that. Everybody needs to go through adversity. They need to overcome obstacles and I really think that made me tougher as a person. When I first went up there, my first practice, we did conditioning and I threw up. That let me know that this is real."
One word to describe yourself on the court…
"Smooth."
One word to describe yourself off the court…
"Off the court? Smooth."
On what he is looking forward to the most…
"I want to be ACC champions. I want to set that barrier to let other teams – not just ACC teams, other teams around the nation – know that we're here. We're not bottom level of the ACC or whatever they're saying about us. But that's okay because we're working. We're working – 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. lifts, workouts, pick-up, all of that. I think we'll be ready for anybody that tries to step in our way."
