Eagles garner top-15 ranking entering the 2016 season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team will enter the 2016 season with a No. 11 preseason ranking, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) annual preseason poll.
Coming off an 11-8-2 record in 2015 – when Eagles advanced to the program's second-ever NCAA Elite Eight – head coach Ed Kelly's squad is set to return nine of the 11 starters who paced the team through three NCAA wins. Included in the group is senior Zeiko Lewis, who earned NSCAA All-South first-team honors in 2015. Junior defender Len Zeugner also returns following his All-ACC season last year.
A total of six ACC teams are ranked in the NSCAA's preseason top 25, including five teams in the top 11: No. 3 Clemson, No. 5 Wake Forest, No. 6 Syracuse, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 11 BC. Virginia is ranked No. 17. The Eagles will face Clemson, Wake Forest, Syracuse and UNC this season.
After a pair of exhibition matches – vs. Providence at home on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and at Holy Cross on Saturday, Aug. 20 – the Eagles will officially open the 2016 season when they travel to play Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn., on Friday, Aug. 26. BC opens its home slate against Boston University at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28.
