#BCEagles Newstand: One Final Scrimmage before Georgia Tech
August 25, 2016 | Football, Boston College Athletics
The Eagles had their last intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team held their final intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday morning at Alumni Stadium in their final preseason tune-up before shifting their focus to Georgia Tech.
With the focus moving to Georgia Tech, Coach Addazio discussed how the international trip will impact their weekly game day preparations. Â "It doesn't (impact preparation) other than the fact that you're traveling," he said. "Traditionally in camp you give them a day, then you give them the weekend (off). That's why we're starting on Georgia Tech tomorrow. We have been working on Georgia Tech defense the whole time, but in camp just periods, not all day."
During the scrimmage the quarterbacks were working extensively out of the shotgun. Graduate quarterback Patrick Towles discussed his thoughts on playing away from center, "The shotgun gives you a little better perspective, I think. It gives you a little bit more room when you are playing against really good defenses like we do."
Despite Towles getting the bulk of the action with the first team in the scrimmage, Coach Addazio is in no rush to name his starting quarterback for the season opener.
One target for the quarterbacks who is looking to make an impact after a season-ending injury last year is Ben Glines. The redshirt freshman suffered an injury early in training camp in 2015, however is back full strength and looking to contribute this fall.
Defensive end Harold Landry was a large factor in the Eagles dominant defense last year, which ranked first in the nation. However, Landry believes there is still a lot he can improve on and strives to be the greatest out there. "I think this offseason was the hardest I worked," Landry said. "I think I can get better in a bunch of different aspects of the game.
Sophomore kicker Colton Lichtenberg was not supposed to be thrown into the fire as a freshman last year, but an injury to senior Alex Howell put the Savannah, Ga. native in the starting spot just in time for ACC play. With a year under his belt Lichtenberg is focused to learn from his rookie year, and grow into his own. Â
