Eagles Open 2016 Season With BC Invitational
August 23, 2016 | Volleyball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball will embark on the 2016 campaign this Friday, August 26, by hosting the Boston College Invitational. This will be the eighth annual edition of the tournament being hosted in Power Gym.
Alongside the Eagles, the tournament will feature the Mountain West Conference's Fresno State Bulldogs, and the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds of the Northeast Conference.
Boston College will open up the tournament by squaring off against the Blackbirds on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. LIU Brooklyn will then face Fresno State in Friday's nightcap at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles will return to the court for two games on Saturday: a rematch against the Blackbirds in the afternoon and a match against the Bulldogs to end the tournament in the evening.
The Eagles will be facing LIU Brooklyn for the second time in the team's history, having dropped the only previous match in 2014. On the other hand, Fresno State and Boston College will meet for the first time in the programs' histories.
On the upcoming start to the season, head coach Chris Campbell emphasized, "We are excited to head into the opening weekend of the 2016 season. We are not a final product yet (in terms of our play and execution), but we've taken some positive steps on our way to where we want to be."
Campbell also added that he "will be looking to get a sense of the grit of the team. We have a lot of new players this year for whom this will be their first collegiate match so I'm excited to see how they handle the inevitable challenges that we will face."
